Product Review: Hammer Anvil RFID Blocking Leather Front Pocket Wallet

Looking to trim down the size of your wallet? Concerned about RFID theft with your tap to pay credit card?  This may be the answer to your needs.

A few weeks ago I became fed up with my traditional bi-fold wallet. Not only was it stuffed with cards I never used, but also was a good 3/4 to a full 1 inch thick. So not only was it uncomfortable to carry in my back pocket, I was tired of it taking up so much space. In addition, I had to throw away a pair of blue jeans because my wallet had worn a hole in them so much that they were no longer acceptable to wear.

Having recently started actively participating in a minimalist lifestyle(being more deliberate about everything I own and use in life) I found myself looking for a slimmer wallet that I could carry in my front pocket and generally take up less space and only carry what I truly needed. So I hopped on Amazon and started searching to see what existed and if anything would fit what I wanted.

One of the first results what the Hammer Anvil RFID Blocking Leather Front Pocket wallet. This seemed to fit my requirements exactly, however I wanted to make sure so I looked around a bit and then settled on this particular wallet.

The Wallet

It’s a rather small and slim wallet so there isn’t much to say about it other than I found it for under 20$ which I think is a great selling feature as I hate spending a lot on wallets.

  • Small form factor, a little larger than a credit card in width and length.
  • RFID Blocking – Protects tap to pay cards from RFID theft through internal material
  • 6 card slots
  • 1 large pocket for cash
  • Slim size for front or back pocket use
  • Real Leather
  • Had three colors available to pick from(at the time I purchased mine) these include: Black, Brown, Grey(which is more a grey brown than a real grey which is shown in the photos below).

Below are a few pictures of all the pockets with a few items added to it.

Quality

Although inexpensive, I have to say this has incredible quality. When I received it the packing was more than just the wallet in an envelope. It came in a branded thin canvas style draw string bag and was wrapped in clear crystal cellophane. This gave it a very premium feel before even seeing the wallet. Once opened you could smell the genuine leather and feel the solid construction.

I have been using it for about three weeks now and I haven’t had any threads come loose and it still feels as solid as the day it arrived. With that I feel like it should last a few years just as my previous traditional bi-fold wallet worked. I am very satisfied with how well it works and is holding up to daily use.

Usage/Thoughts

I now carry my wallet in my front pocket with my cell phone because it is so thin. This is great for accessing it quickly, especially while seated in the car. The only thing is I have to be careful to not pull out the wallet when I am checking my phone.

The only issue I have is that the photo showing grey online is not the grey received. Mine was a very dark brown/grey. However it doesn’t look just brown or black, so it does appear to be it’s own color. Although not the same as picture it still looks very classy and I am satisfied with it. So if you have your heart set on a true grey, you will probably not receive that color.

Personally this wallet is just big enough for me to carry what I need plus one or two cards extra. So I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good, solid slim wallet. I can’t think of any ways to improve the function or form factor.

  1. I have looked around for ways to test the NFC piece but none of the cards I use offer an NFC card. Those I know don’t have them either. So unfortunately I can’t give a definitive answer.

If anyone has tested this please let us know here in the comments or our contact page. If you are worried about the data collected either place I can reassure you that we don’t resell or give it away. Check out our privacy policy for more details.

  2. Hi Mark,

I haven’t tested it yet with an RFID credit card. Although I did test it with an RFID access card/fob. This was still able to be read, but that may be because of the size and frequency that’s specific to that device. I will try to get this tested and will be sure to update the post confirming this once complete.

  3. Have you tested the RFID blocking protection? I would like to know if the wallet truly does prevent credit card RFID/NFC chips from being accessed.
