Horseshoe Curve (Altoona, PA)

If you’re looking for a place to get some beautiful and interesting shots, Horseshoe Curve is the place!

I’d been there with Trevor and his family once before, but wasn’t all that interested. We mainly went to see the trains, which isn’t all that entertaining for me. Instead, I fell in love with the scenery.

Horseshoe Curve is an engineering marvel that was made during the American Industrial revolution. This part of the Pennsylvania Railroad follows the mountain range, and is a great way to safely see locomotives speed by, within twenty feet.

The setting is beautiful, with a large lake  and tree-covered mountains for miles. I highly suggest stopping by in the fall, or spring.

There is a small museum to check out, that has a small theater with an informative film. While you’re there, be sure to check out the Amtrak schedule they have posted. This will show you how many trains you might see during your visit. We ended up seeing three in a fifteen minute period!
